Loaches are from the Cobitidae family and most from the genus BOTIA from South East Asia, although the classic Clown Loach is from South America. The Botia loaches are good hardy community fish that spend most of their time on the aquarium floor.
Amazingly they are sensitive to barometric pressure, so can behave strangely in adverse weather conditions. They are also more active during dust and dawn.
Provide plants, wood and rocks for them as they like to hide under things on occasion and may even bury themselves under the substrate.
Loaches thrive in a broad pH range of 6.5-7,5, apart from the Clown loach who prefers it slightly acidic, pH6-6.8.
